"Arab Tech Forum 2008" - FAQ

major%20event%20logo%20small.jpg

Many of our members have been asking us for additional details on the upcoming “Arab Technology Forum 2008”. So here are answers to many of those questions.

When: Tuesday Jan. 15 to Thursday Jan. 17, 2008

Where: A hotel in Silicon Valley  - stay tuned for additional details

Goal of the event:

In a nutshell, the goal of the event is to “help Arab technology companies and institutions to become  more succesful”. How does TechWadi intend to make that happen:

  • Enable these Arab technology companies & institutions to learn business best practices from leading Silicon Valley companies. We have allocated time for TechWadi executives at these Silicon Valley companies to come in and share their busienss and industry expertise with these Arab companies and insititutions. This will take place during Tuesday Jan. 15
  • Enable these Arab technology companies & institutions  to have in-depth meetings with leading Silicon Valley companies to discuss business partnerships (buy / sell / joint ventures / outsourcing …). We are helping the Arab companies and institutions schedule one/one meetings with TechWadi executives at leading Silicon Valley companies. This will take place on Wed. Jan. 16 and Thurs. Jan. 17.

Event Agenda:

  •  Tues. Jan. 15 - we have planned a full day (start at 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM) of business seminars with the Arab companies & institutions. Silicon Valley experts will share with them the state of affairs in the various technology industries (software, internet, …). Later on that day, there will be an expo during which the various companies will present their products and services. At the end of the day, there will be a panel discussion on “buidling a world-class technology company”.
  • Wed. Jan. 16 - during the day, the Arab companies / institutions will be taken on a guided tour of various Silicon Valley companies to learn from them how to compete globally and how to grow your business from $0 to multiple $M. At the end of the day, we will be honoring HRH Princess Sumaya Bint El Hassan with a gala dinner and a panel discussion on “R&D in the Arab World”.
  • Thurs. Jan. 17 - This is the day during which  Arab companies & insitutions will go to their individual meetings with Silicon Valley companies to discuss business partnerships. After this activity, the Forum will be closed for 2008.

Who’s been invited to the Forum from the Arab World ?

The forum has invited three types of delegates:

  • Native Arab companies that develop technology products and services - your classic privately-owned technology company
  • Arab institutions that acquire technology products and services - these could be educational or government institutions that play a big role in the deployment or development of technology in the Arab World
  • US companies that have a strong connection to the Arab World - these could be developing Arabic-focused solutions or have R&D operations in the Arab world

What’s in it for you (our dear TechWadi member in Silicon Valley) ?

  •  First and foremost - our TechWadi community should attend the event to show our commitment to support the native development of technology in the Arab World. And the best way to do that is to come and meet and learn more about what these companies are doing in the Arab world.
  • Second - the Arab world is rapidly becoming the next big frontier for technology products and services. So if your company wants to learn more about the Arab technology market, what better way to learn about it than from companies actually selling products and services there today.
  • Third - the Arab World offers technical talent on-par if not superior to what India, China, Eastern Europe … can offer. So if your company wants to learn how to tap into that talent pool, what better way to learn that than to talk to companies who already employ such people.

How can I (TechWadi member) help, you ask ?

  • Simple ! - Mark your calendar to attend the full day session on Tues. Jan. 15 and to attend the Gala dinner on the evening of Wed. Jan. 16.
  • If you get a request from TechWadi to meet with one of these Arab companies / institutions to discuss business opportunities with your company, say YES !  Email requests will be going out in the next 10 days.

Where should Arab companies / institutions register if they want to participate ?

All interested participants from the Arab Wold should register their companies at: www.techwadi.org/arabtechforum

Where  should I (TechWadi member) register to attend the event ?

We’re glad you asked. We have put together four attendance packages that should suit all tastes and wallets:

  1. Conference only package - $40. this will give you access to the Tues. Jan. 15 conference proceedings, all day, including the evening panel discussion. Breakfast and lunch will be served and snacks in the evening.
  2. Conference and Gala dinner package - $100. This will give you access to the Tues. Jan. 15 proceedings (as above) and access to the Gala dinner and panel discussion on Wed. Jan. 15 in honor of HRH Princess Sumaya Bint El Hassan.
  3. Student package - Conference and Gala dinner - $40. We want to encourage students from surrounding universities to attend. This will give you access to all of the items in package #2, but at a heavily discounted price.

Finally, to our TechWadi members who want to support TechWadi and get VIP seating at the Gala Dinner, we have created a special package:

Make sure to check out the TechWadi website on a regular basis between now and Jan. 15, to learn new details as they are posted.

Please note that it will be nearly impossible to handle conference registrations at the door for this event. So it is very likely that we will close registrations a couple of days before Jan. 15, so we can order the right amount of food etc.

So if you don’t want to be left out of this unique conference, please register now !
